Samsung’s dual-hinge foldable phone is in the works. Last year, Huawei introduced the Mate XT as a foldable phone with two hinges. The device uses an S-shaped mechanism where the display bends inward at one point and outward at another. This design has raised concerns about the durability of the phone, as even when folded, the display was still susceptible to damage. Read more about the phone in this article from Orcacore.

Introduction to Samsung’s dual-hinge foldable phone (Galaxy G Fold)

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are still months away from being officially launched. However, some interesting new information about the company’s first dual-hinge foldable phone has been leaked, including its expected release date and screen size.

What's the design of the Galaxy G Fold

Samsung briefly hinted at its dual-hinge foldable phone at the Galaxy S25 series launch event but didn’t provide any details about the device. According to popular leaker Yeux1122, Samsung’s three-piece foldable phone will be called the “Galaxy G Fold“.

What’s the design of the Galaxy G Fold?

This time, instead of the S-shaped design, Samsung has apparently opted for a G-shaped mechanism. This design, which was recently seen in Samsung’s G-Flex display prototype, folds inward on both sides and when closed, the display is completely covered and protected.

This method, unlike Huawei’s design, will increase the screen’s resistance to scratches, impacts, and wear.

Samsung is apparently developing a new type of display and a special protective layer for its dual-hinge foldable phone that will be more durable. Given the complexities of manufacturing such a product, it’s expected that production volumes will be limited and that Samsung’s phone will be marketed as an ultra-premium product.

Galaxy G Fold specs

As mentioned in the previous section, in Samsung’s dual-hinge foldable phone, both sides of the display fold inward, which increases the safety of the display.

The Galaxy G Fold could feature a 9.96-inch display, which would be about 30 percent larger than the 7.6-inch Z Fold 6.

When folded, it will be 6.54 inches tall, which makes it closer to standard phones in terms of dimensions.

It’s also said that the phone will weigh the same as the H model, which is likely a reference to Huawei’s Mate XT, but Samsung may offer a slightly thicker device due to the internal folding design.

It’s also said that the phone will use new displays and protective layers that are different from those used on the Z series phones.

Galaxy G Fold possible release date

Another notable change is the possible release date for Samsung’s dual-hinge foldable phone.

Galaxy G Fold

Some early reports had the device launching in early 2026. A new report claims that the Galaxy G Fold could be launched in the third quarter of 2025. Ross Young also confirmed this timeframe in a post on the X social network.

It seems that the production of this device will be limited and has a high price tag, making it a special and experimental product.

Conclusion

Given Samsung’s lack of innovation in foldable phones, the company’s strategy makes sense. In recent years, Samsung has been less successful in innovating with its Z Fold and Z Flip models, often using the same hardware and design from different generations. In contrast, companies like Huawei, OnePlus, and even Google are releasing thinner, lighter, and more refined foldable phones.

Samsung has been cautious about foldable phones for a long time. If Samsung’s dual-hinge foldable phone, the Galaxy G Fold, doesn’t deliver significant innovation, we may just see another expensive product that promises a breakthrough but in reality, offers a limited and uninspiring experience.
